Suitable for everyone who can cast on, cast off, knit and purl.

During this 3 hour workshop, you will be working from a printed pattern and chart (provided) to create a cosy neck warmer in a simple lace pattern. We shall start the pattern in class and you can take it away to finish at your leisure.

Perfect for in-between seasons, this 1940s inspired short scarf uses a built-in “tunnel” through which one end is tucked. This keeps it snug to the neck and in place during wear. It is also small and lightweight enough to put into your pocket or handbag for when the sun comes out.

The pattern is designed for you to practice chart reading, directional decreases, yarnover increases and a three-needle cast-off. No previous experience of lace knitting is required as the workshop will ease you into the world of intentional holes nice and gently.

Attendees will need to bring a 50g ball of Aran weight yarn and a pair of 5.5mm needles (to make the knitted fabric nice and light and emphasise the lacework, a size above that usually used is suggested). Bring also an additional needle in the same or similar size to work the three-needle cast-off (this could be a DPN or circular needle, it doesn’t have to be a straight). Two stitch holders (approx 10cm) would be useful but not essential.

Please also bring a pair of scissors for snipping yarn, a notepad and pen/pencil for note-taking, and a tapestry needle. A ruler is useful to help you keep your place on the knitting chart, or a magnetic board if you have one (like the type used for cross stitch charts).

Maximum number of attendees: 10
