Leather Journal Workshop with Lynne Friel
Sat 2nd March @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm| £75
These one-day workshops are fun and friendly and suitable for complete beginners. Using up-cycled leather first make a small (15 x 11cm) 96 page book which will introduce you to all the basic bookbinding and leather working techniques. Then make a larger (21 x 15cm) 120 page book with a wraparound leather cover. The hardest part is choosing the fastening.
You will go home with two journals. The larger one can be designed to include pens or pencils. Good quality cartridge is available or if you have a favourite paper please bring it with you. There will always be a good range of black and brown up-cycled leather. There will be some coloured leather, depending on what I’ve been able to source. You’ll have a good supply of vintage buttons to rummage through and each journal will be totally unique. Choose bright contrasting colours or go into stealth mode and produce something all in black – the choice is yours. With a few simple tools you’ll have the skills to make these journals at home.
Leather long stitch journals
This technique is very simple to master and looks stunning. Learn how to fold the paper to make sections and then choose a contrasting thread to attach the sections to the up-cycled leather. In this workshop the paper sections are sewn directly into the leather. On the spine you will see the thread in a series of parallel lines, one for each section.
