Patchwork/domino knitting is a great way to combine lots of different yarns and colours. The single mitred square is the easiest unit to learn to make and can be used to produce a wide variety of items of soft furnishing and accessories. It can also be used to make garments although the garment shape needs to be kept simple.

This workshop covers how to knit a basic mitred square, the different methods of joining mitred squares and how to knit left and right half squares and top/bottom half squares.

In the workshop you will have the opportunity to start making a cushion or a blanket.

You will need:

  • Chunky or Super Chunky yarn in two colours
  • Needles suitable for knitting the yarn you are using, approx. 6mm to 7mm for chunky or 10mm to 12mm for Super Chunky.
  • Scissors

Techniques covered in this workshop include:
Cast-on for working patchwork knitting, a chain selvedge, double decreases, picking up stitches from another square, making a single mitred square, making left and right half squares, making top/bottom half squares, weaving in ends as you go.
