Suitable for everyone who can cast on, cast off, knit and purl. Some experience of knitting in the round would be helpful but not essential.

This 3-hour workshop is an introduction to slip-stitch knitting in the round. This form of colour work is so simple to achieve and creates beautiful, hard-wearing fabrics, perfect for accessories.

Working from a printed pattern, you will begin to knit this playful beanie, using up any oddments of DK yarn from your stash (the shop is well stocked with suitable yarn if you find yourself short or undecided). The beanie sports a simple1940’s slip stitch pattern, changing colours every two rounds.

The version described in the pattern uses four colours but any number of colours could be used to great effect.

Attendees will need to bring DK yarn from your stash. The version in the photograph used 30g/63m of a DK in charcoal for the welt (A), and less than 25g each of a DK in tangerine (B), green (C) and coral (B). You will also need to bring one of each of 3.5mm and 4mm circular needles (40cm cable), or long cables (80cm plus) if using the Magic Loop method.

Please also bring a pair of scissors for snipping yarn, a notepad and pen/pencil for note-taking, and a tapestry needle. A stitch marker is useful but not essential.

Maximum number of attendees: 10
